MMCA represents over 120 union contractors across the state of Minnesota. Our contractors service and install plumbing, cooling and heating systems in residential, commercial and industrial sectors.  Membership with MMCA provides labor relations services, legislative representation, and robust educational opportunities.

MMCA's History

MMCA is a member driven organization with a full-time staff designed to lead and direct our industry.  MMCA and its predecessor organizations incorporated almost 100 years ago with the consistent purpose to promote high quality workmanships, protect public health & maintain harmonious business relationships.

Matt Marquis

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Matt Marquis leads the negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements for MMCA.  His work also includes researching and advising employers in areas such as OSHA, Fair Labor Standards Act, employment law, and policy drafting.  He serves as an employer-appointed professional trustee on Taft-Hartley pension, health and welfare benefit trust funds, and apprenticeship funds.  Marquis earned his law degree at the University of St. Thomas - School of Law in Minneapolis, where he was a President’s Scholar.

Sophie Thaden

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

Sophie Thaden develops and manages MMCA’s digital and print communications strategies, continually identifying innovative ways to elevate the industry through targeted marketing and educational initiatives. She has played a pivotal role in expanding MMCA’s educational programs, significantly enhancing their scale to better serve members with cutting-edge training and development opportunities. Sophie holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota.

Phil Marquis

LABOR RELATIONS SPECIALIST

Phil Marquis is a seasoned labor relations specialist with over 20 years of experience in union environments, contract negotiation, grievance management, and contract administration. As a former plant manager at a chemical mining facility, Phil focused on environmental permitting, safety, compliance, capital projects, quality assurance, and employee development. He is passionate about coaching and helping employees grow and has received specialized training in leadership development and employee engagement. Phil holds a Master’s degree in chemistry from University of Minnesota, Duluth and Bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering and biology from University of Connecticut, bringing a unique technical and managerial perspective to his work.

Ann Lindstrom

DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Ann Lindstrom serves as Director of Government Affairs. She brings more than 15 years of public-sector leadership experience, including five years as Deputy Secretary of State for Operations with the Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State and more than eight years in government relations with the League of Minnesota Cities. Ann has extensive experience in legislative strategy, regulatory policy, and stakeholder engagement, and is known for her strong communication and collaborative leadership style. She works closely with contractors and policymakers to advocate for members on licensing, code, and business regulations at the Capitol.

MMCA Office & Training Center

Interested in using our facility?
Members are welcome to use our facility for corporate trainings or meetings free of charge.
The MMCA Training Center features moveable tables and chairs that can be configured to seat up to 40 people. The room also includes a built-in projector, flip charts, and access to the kitchen & common spaces in the office.
The Conference Room features a conference table with seating for up to 12. The room also includes a TV with laptop hookup.
MMCA members may book the training center or conference room for their use free of charge. Complete this space request form to inquire.
  • The available days/times are Monday through Friday between 7:30 am - 5:00 pm and cannot conflict with MMCA events.
  • MMCA will provide coffee and beverages and access to the kitchen & buffet area.
  • Members are responsible for providing any food/snacks for their meeting.
